Inspiration:

Yes, Hollander is partially inspired by the Spring-Equinox time of year in Holland (Modern day Netherlands,) but it’s moreso inspired by an old college roommate of mine, who was from the Dutch village of Pella, Iowa. There, they celebrate their heritage with an annual town-wide festival called ‘Tulip Time.’ The festival has attracted millions from around the globe, featuring wooden-clog dance routines, original Dutch faire, a parade, and over 300,000 tulips everywhere you look. All these years later I haven’t forgotten his stories, and so this release is in dedication to him, his home town, and their heritage. Read below for more scent notes. I hope you’ll give it a try!

Scent Profile: Black Spice*, Amsterdam Breeze*, Poplar Sawmillings*

Scent Notes:

Don’t let the inclusion of the tulip fool you—this is a true fresh cologne scent, and It’s got just enough of a dark bite from the Black Spice (think clove, black pepper, patchouli, etc,) to keep things from getting too springy.

The Amsterdam Breeze features a combination of clean ozone, wild mosses, those renowned tulip fields, and some marine aromatics to simulate a breeze going over the freshwater canals of Amsterdam. It’s Airy, crisp, floral in a fresh—not powdery kind of way, and even features a bit of earthyness from the moss. This mix is the X factor in the blend.

Poplar Sawmillings is a nod to the lightweight wood that was milled for the wooden shoes the Dutchman were known for wearing. We used a Poplar Essential Oil along with a little Elm and Black Teakwood to get what we were going for. It gives the essence of sawdust and cut timbers.

Overall: a great complex mix, perfectly worthy of being our first Spring Black Label Series release. Everything works so well together, and you can definitely pick up all of the notes listed. It’s a fresh spring cologne with a dark edginess that brings it back just in time. Imagine waking up from a crazy night in Amsterdam in the middle of a tulip field. You rise, gaze at the windmills, and walk your way back to the city to find your mates. Everything is all good, but they’re gonna definitely ask where the hell you got the wooden shoes from. Enjoy!
